The best Wispr Flow alternatives in 2026
By Collabute · Published
The short answer
The best Wispr Flow alternative for most Mac users is Collabute Flow: unlimited AI dictation for free, with no weekly word cap, plus meeting transcription and a voice assistant in the same app. If you want your speech to stay on your Mac, pick Superwhisper, SayWrite or MacWhisper. If you need dictation on your phone and Windows too, Wispr Flow is still hard to beat.

Why people look for a Wispr Flow alternative
Wispr Flow is good. It is fast, the cleanup is strong, and it works on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android. Most people who leave it do so for one of four reasons:
- The free word cap. The free plan allows about 2,000 words a week on desktop. If you dictate all day, you hit that fast.
- The price. Pro is $15 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly. That is fine for heavy use, but a lot for dictation alone.
- The cloud. Wispr Flow always transcribes in its cloud. Some people need their words to stay on their Mac.
- They want more than dictation. Meetings, tasks, or a one-time price.
Each alternative below fixes at least one of these. We make Collabute and list it first; facts about the others come from their own sites, checked in November 2026.
1. Collabute Flow: no word cap, and more than dictation
Collabute Flow works the way Wispr Flow does. Double-tap a key, talk, and clean text lands in whatever app has your cursor, with filler words cleaned up as you talk. It works in Slack, Mail, Notes, Cursor, your browser and anywhere else you type.
The difference is the price. Flow is free and unlimited on every Collabute plan. There is no weekly cap, and no credit card.
Collabute then goes further than dictation. Lite, $9 a month, adds meeting transcription on your Mac with no bot. Pro, $29 a month, adds Obvee, a voice assistant you talk to: you say what you need, it does the task in your browser or Mac apps, and tells you out loud when it is done.
Where Wispr Flow is better: phones, Windows and languages. Collabute is a Mac app, Windows is in early access and there is no phone app yet. Like Wispr Flow, Collabute processes speech in the cloud, with zero data retention at its AI providers.

2. Superwhisper: for dictation that stays on your device
Superwhisper is the closest match to Wispr Flow's reach, with apps on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android under one license. The big difference is that it can run speech models on your own device.
The free plan gives unlimited dictation with local Whisper models, and nothing you dictate leaves your device. Pro adds cloud models, the faster local Parakeet model, AI modes that rewrite your words, file transcription and meetings on macOS.
Pro is $8.49 a month, $84.99 a year, or $249.99 once. If you hate subscriptions, that lifetime price is the reason to choose it.
Where Wispr Flow is better: setup. Wispr Flow works well out of the box, while Superwhisper rewards people who like to tune modes and models. See Collabute vs Superwhisper.
3. SayWrite: cheap, local and simple
SayWrite is a small, focused Mac app. Hold Fn, speak, and it types clean text with filler words removed. Its AI Polish, which rewrites rambling speech, runs locally through Apple Intelligence or a model you run in Ollama or LM Studio.
After a 7-day free trial it costs $5 a month or $30 a year, with no word limit. That is the cheapest paid AI cleanup on this list.
Where Wispr Flow is better: SayWrite is English only and Mac only, and it needs Apple silicon with macOS 15 or later.
4. MacWhisper: for files as well as dictation
MacWhisper is best known for transcribing audio and video files on your Mac with local models. It now also does real-time dictation into any app and records calls without a bot.
There is a free version, and Pro is a one-time €64 with lifetime updates on its website. If you transcribe interviews, lectures or podcasts, and dictate now and then, it covers both for one payment.
Where Wispr Flow is better: dictation is the whole of Wispr Flow, and it shows. In MacWhisper it is one feature of many.
5. Granola Voice Typing: if you already use Granola
Granola is a meeting notepad, and it added Voice Typing in late 2026. Hold a key, speak, and it pastes formatted text into any app. It is free on every Granola plan.
It is new and in beta on Mac, with Windows and phones listed as coming soon. If you already take meeting notes in Granola, it may be all the dictation you need.
Where Wispr Flow is better: maturity. Wispr Flow has years of dictation features, such as snippets and a learned dictionary across devices.
6. Apple Dictation: the free fallback
Apple Dictation is already on your Mac. Turn it on in System Settings, under Keyboard. It adds punctuation in supported languages and runs on your device on supported Macs.
Where Wispr Flow is better: almost everything about cleanup. Apple Dictation types what you say, and isn't built to remove filler words or rewrite. It is a fine fallback for short messages.
What to check before you switch
Dictation apps feel alike until you use one all day. A few things are worth checking in the first week with any of them:
- Your shortcut. Each app uses a different key: a double-tap, holding Fn, or a key you choose. Pick one that doesn't clash with your other apps, and turn off the old app so two of them don't listen at once.
- Your words. Names, product terms and jargon are where dictation goes wrong. If you built a dictionary or snippets in Wispr Flow, add the important ones to your new app on day one.
- Your apps. Try it in the places you type most: Slack, email, your code editor, a browser form. Most apps work everywhere, but some fields behave oddly.
- Your languages. If you dictate in more than one language, check that the new app supports each one, and how well. SayWrite, for example, is English only.
- Your Mac. Local models are faster on newer Apple silicon. On an older Mac, a cloud app may feel quicker.
